Have your say on Council’s position on Climate Change

Are you worried about climate change and interested in Council’s position on this global issue? You have the opportunity to comment on Council’s draft Climate Change Policy – the overarching framework for Council to guide strategic and operational planning decisions and to develop and implement Adaptation and Mitigation Action Plans.

The Draft Climate Change policy will be available for viewing at the Council Administration Centre Bellingen, the Bellingen Library, Dorrigo Library from Wednesday 11 April 2012 to Wednesday 9 May 2012. A copy of the Draft Policy will also be available for viewing on Council’s website, as of tomorrow 12.4.12.

Submissions:

Submissions to the Draft Climate Change Policy 2012 should be addressed to The General Manager, PO Box 117, Bellingen NSW 2454, and should be received no later than the close of business on Wednesday 9 May 2012.

Council’s Natural Resources staff can be contacted on 02 6655 7300 during normal office hours to assist with any enquiries regarding the Draft Climate Change Policy 2012.

TOMORROW – We are launching Plastic Free April by having another public “PLASTIC FREEZE” in Bellingen. ALL ARE WELCOME – whether or not you are taking the Challenge. Be on either side of the main street between Church St and the Pub at 11:00 sharp on Saturday (this coming one – 31 March). Listen for the signal of 3 car horn beeps. Whip out a sign (A4 paper size or whatever) that says “PLASTIC FREE APRIL STARTS TOMORROW!” and FREEZE for 5 minutes – until you hear 3 car horn beeps to end the freeze. AND THAT IS IT! see you there!!

A Sustainable Transport Master Plan – Community Workshop

The NSW government will be releasing a draft Transport Master Plan in June this year with its vision for transport for NSW for the next 20 years. Members of the community are being consulted as part of that process.

As the Greens transport spokeswoman I am undertaking consultation with the community in an effort to ensure as many voices and views are heard as possible throughout this process. I aim to collate ideas from these workshops and feed them into the government’s draft plan to ensure NSW gets a sustainable and community-focused transport master plan.

I will be talking to communities in regional NSW and broader Sydney in an effort to ensure genuine solutions for sustainable transport in local areas are considered. There is a danger that the some people’s voices will be ignored during the government’s process and this is my attempt to ensure that this doesn’t happen.

There will be a workshop in Coffs Harbour on Monday, 16 April 2012, from 1-3pm at the Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre at 22 Earl St Coffs Harbour via Harbour Drive and the Pacific Hwy.
