I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with our movies, or the book in which Paul Ray and Sherry Ruth Anderson summarized the findings of their 13-year study about the Cultural Creatives; but as the producer of the two documentaries I would like to take this opportunity to give you a short update with the hope of bringing Cultural Creatives worldwide closer together through this Facebook forum. I feel it is becoming increasingly important to spread the message of my films to as many people as possible; therefore, I have made a decision to give free access to my second documentary for the next 4 days (until 12 a.m. PST, January 23rd, 2012). Previously this documentary, Cultural Creatives 1.0 – The (R)evolution, has been available through donations or cross referencing via widgets and hyperlinks since its release date last spring.

My hope is to provide help and offer alternatives to those who are interested in Cultural Creative results and initiatives from other countries. In addition my aim is to create a basis for easier communication and more tailored future discussions, both on the website and here on Facebook.

I feel it’s important to share with you that all my projects are 100% self-financed with no external funding whatsoever. They include the enthusiastic work of a diverse group of individuals who often volunteer their time for this important cause. Therefore, we are asking everyone who liked our film and agrees with its message to support our efforts, so we can continue delivering news like this to people via our net TV program in the future. Of course, we appreciate other types of support as well. We thank everybody for spreading the news of our work; allowing us to reach as many viewers as possible around the world. We have faith that our movie will get to the right people, and one way or another connect us with those who are also able to contribute to our project and keep it moving for the benefit of all.

Eclectic Night of Music & Art

Roots Records celebrate their first birthday this December and to mark the occasion they’re hosting an evening of fine music and art at the Bellingen Memorial Hall. The event is headlined by eclectic world music group Tibet2Timbuk2, supported by Master Bansuri Flutist Taro Terahara, and includes a one-off photography exhibition by renowned film maker Albert Falzon.

Rollicking Tibetan folk, afro-reggae guitar grooves and intricate Indian tabla. Sounds like an unlikely combination right? Well, think again! Tibet2Timbuk2 fuse sounds from various parts of the globe seamlessly resulting with a sound that is truly out of this world. After extensive touring in Japan, the Brisbane based band are back home and play Bellingen Memorial Hall as part of their East Coast tour. Band members Tenzin Choegyal, Marcello Milani and Shen Flindell are delighted to be bringing their unique sound to the Mid North Coast. These three versatile and talented musicians share melody, harmony, bass and percussion roles making for a performance of great diversity. At one moment their melodic grooves get you moving the next you’ll be in a blissful meditative state.

Tibet2Timbuk2 are supported by Master Bansuri Flutist Taro Terahara, one of the leading musicians in the thriving and highly competitive Indian classical music scene in Japan. Terahara has dedicated his life to the Bansuri and has spent time in India studying under great masters. His craft has taken him all over the world including performances at Woodford Folk Festival and the Festival of Tibet.

Albert Falzon is best known for his contribution to the Australian Surf Industry, in particular his cult classic 70’s surf film Morning of The Earth. He has also produced several documentaries about cultural festivals in far flung destinations around the world. Falzon’s photography exhibition showcases stunning, thought provoking images captured from his journey to remote locations in both Tibet and Timbuktu during the early 80’s.

The fallout from the 2008 global financial crisis continues as European nations struggle to prevent economic meltdown. What impact are such developments having on small regional communities in Australia? How can such communities respond to the challenges of global financial crisis? How can they become more resilient and self-sustaining?

In a seminar organized by the Free University of Bellingen, participants are invited to share their knowledge and experiences of the impact of the financial crisis. Organizer, Dr Richard Hil comments:

“This is a great opportunity for people in Bellingen and surrounding areas to reflect on the consequences of the on-going GFC for themselves, their families and communities. It’s a means of reflecting on a range of issues relating to how we live and what alternatives are available to us. We don’t have to be at the mercy of market forces or to cow tow to the money lenders. There’s a broad sense in Australia and beyond that we have entered a new era and that the future will be very different for all of us”.

Speakers include Nick Rose (Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance), Frances Amaroux,(Counsellor and Social Activist) and Rod Weir (small business operator and former Shell employee ). And there will be plenty of opportunity for questions, and robust group discussion.

With the recent spike in break and enters and armed hold-ups on local businesses of the Coffs Coast the Chamber has asked Superintendant Holahan to give an information session explaining the police response to these offences and also give us information on how we can better protect our businesses. There will also be a question and answer session to help resolve any of your worries with relation to these crimes.
