Judging for the 2010 CountryLink North Coast Tourism Awards for Business Excellence is now complete and winners will be announced at a Gala Black Tie Dinner in Coffs Harbour on Saturday, August 14.

Master of Ceremonies at the much awaited Gala Presentation Night will be Channel 10 weatherman, Tim Bailey.

There will be 27 Winners announced on the night – along with finalists selected from almost 100 entries by tourism businesses from the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast.

As part of the Healthy Rivers Program, Council will be running a series of events to empower landholders to take action to improve river bank condition and stability.

Come along, explore some river bank restoration sites and see what it takes to achieve long term resilience to erosion and flooding.

Baby Bounce coming to Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga Libraries

Starting in Bellingen Library on Tuesday 6th July at 11.00am and running for 4 weeks before moving on to Urunga Library in August and Dorrigo in September, Baby Bounce is a program developed by libraries that focuses on providing a fun environment for both baby and parents/carers.

Together with library staff, parents/carers introduce their child to a world of words, books, songs, bounces, tickles and finger play, all designed to engage and delight whilst providing the child with essential pre reading skills.

Toast Urunga is on again – Sunday, 5 September 2010, from 10am to 4pm.

Situated on the river bank parklands where the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers meet the sea,

Toast Urunga is our local community food, wine and music event attracting over 5000 people and now in its 4th year.

Held on Father’s Day each year, Toast Urunga invites the local community and visitors to participate in an event which offers them “something different” and a day of entertainment in a beautiful setting, whilst providing businesses an opportunity to showcase and sell their produce.

Music entertainment (shared across TWO stages) is constant throughout the 6 hours.

A large marquee hosts cooking demonstrations, plus there will be a local community visual arts display.

Jumping castle, sand wizardry and face painting.

With 40+ stalls there is enough variety for everyone!

Around the town the local shops are open, there are craft tables all along the streets.

Bring along some chairs and/or a blanket so you can sit down and enjoy a fantastic day by our beautiful river.

POSTPONEMENT OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

At the recent Meeting of the Executive, the current President of the Chamber, Dave Hitchcock advised that he would not be re-nominating for the position due to work and family commitments and other community obligations.

This news was received with a great deal of regret by the Executive as Dave has provided outstanding leadership of the Chamber over the past year ensuring that it provides a effective focal point for the business community in Dorrigo. However, the Chamber now finds itself with no other person currently nominated for the important position of President for the forthcoming year. To allow the Executive more time to canvas possible candidates for the position of President it has been decided to defer the holding of the Annual General Meeting (previously scheduled for Wednesday 23rd June 2010) to Wednesday 28th July 2010 at 8am at “A Touch of Country”.

With the postponement of the Annual General Meeting, the Executive has decided to open nominations for all positions on the Committee of the Chamber. All interested persons who would like join the Committee or nominate someone for a position on the Committee, who have not already done so, are invited to submit a Nomination form before 14th July 2010. Nomination forms can be obtained from the Secretary, Vicki Lawrence at “A Touch of Country”.

The Chamber of Commerce supports and promotes the interests of all the business community in Dorrigo whether they be tourism, accommodation or one of the many diversified businesses who make this area so dynamic and unique. The Chamber appreciates the continuing support of all of its members and will continue to do its best to represent their interests but a strong Committee is vital. All members are encouraged to consider nominating for the Committee so that the Chamber continues to be effective in its important role in the community.

Relay For Life is a fun, community based event to raise funds to continue the work of Cancer Council in the fight against cancer and following on from the highly successful Bellingen Energy Festival 2010, the Bellingen Shire Relay For Life will be themed “renewable and recyclable” . Solar Inverters have come onboard, with Cancer Council, as an “in-kind” sponsor for the Bellingen Shire Relay and will be providing solar power for the stage sound and lighting systems. We would like to make the Relay plastic free and ask all team members to focus on using recyclable and reusable containers for food, drink and merchandise etc. The hot drink van at the Relay will be powered by solar energy and gas and the coffee will be organic fair trade.
