Youth delegation from Bellingen Primary School will bring us up to date with what they gained from a recent Youth Leadership program that they attended with financial assistance from the Bellingen Chamber.

Andrew Sommerville is Managing Director of HumanHand Pty Ltd. He is a certified HR Coach, internal quality auditor and professional member of Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI). Andrew works with local small to medium business owners and managers to position them for future growth. Andrew partners with the business to work through the challenges and ensure compliance, performance and staffing management using benchmarking, coaching, planning and a range of innovative solutions and tools.

Previously Andrew has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Open Arms Care Inc., as well as Executive Officer, Operations Manager and Admin Manager positions. Andrew has extensive experience with Community Services as well as small business and government sectors. As a Member of the HR Coach Network, Andrew has access to extensive research which has been the catalyst in providing innovative solutions to clients linking employee performance to profit.

Andrew moved to Belingen with his wife and children in1990 and has since become involved with many community groups. He is the new Director of New Generations for Bellingen Rotary, coordinating the exchange student program; was Chair of the Children’s Centre; is Secretary of Grafton Regional committee of Kairos, Prison Ministry Australia, also led and trained 34 volunteers for project in Grafton jail. Bellingen residents will perhaps know him best wearing his ‘other’ hat, Promised Land Worm Products.

Bellingen Primary School Leaders at Chamber Breakfast !

The Bellingen Chamber of Commerce ‘Winter’ Breakfast will introduce four local young ‘leaders in training’ from Bellingen Primary School, Meg Galloway, Lily Sheather, Tom Tuohy and Tyren Phillips-Cooke. All four took part in the National Young Leaders Day at the Brisbane Convention Centre with financial support from the Bellingen Chamber. And to help move us forward in the business world, Andrew Sommerville of HumanHand HR Help will present ‘Planning for Success’.

Our four young leaders will give us their perspective of what they gained from the trip, the dynamic speakers and the interaction they had with so many other young people from diverse areas and backgrounds.

Forty two students from across the Bellingen Dorrigo Learning Community (BDLC) attended the conference, run by the Halogen Foundation, where they heard diverse speakers talk on the qualities of leadership. Mike Martin, CEO Halogen Foundation spoke on the power and influence of leadership; Tim Maddren and Stevie Nicholson, Hi 5, on individual thought and action plus giving back to the community; Geoff Wilson, adventurer, the importance of having belief and trust in yourself and Marayke Ionkers, para Olympian, on putting your mind on the goal.

The Chamber is proud to support our youth in their endeavours to gain the broad experience that will enhance their lives. Come and join us for a positive youth experience and also learn how to plan for success in your business !

UMCC Breakfast Invitation – November 09

Before moving to Bellingen with his family in 2001 Steve has lived in the UK, Sydney and various other parts of western and northern NSW,working at different times as a rock journalist, permaculturist, public servant and musician. He started web design business Flying Fox Multimedia in 2004 after completing a degree in multimedia at Southern Cross University and working locally in the industry.

Flying Fox has worked with people across Australia and the world. Locally Steve has advised and built websites for a diverse range of organisations including Open Arms Care (for whom the BUD’s Toys online toy library was built), Clarence Regional Library, the North Coast Weeds Advisory Committee, Quigley’s Smokehouse and Stepping Stone Travel.

In 2008 Steve also took over Go4 Multimedia, formerly based in Melbourne, and now runs both businesses from Bellingen with a fantastic team of local staff. The expansion has seen Steve and team responsible for the online presence for hundreds of organisations including the Sandringham Yacht Club, the Victorian Deaf Society, Rex Hunt and Peninsula Health Services as well as a network of national and international conference websites.

Office space – and much work – is shared with sister company Go4 Hosting and 30.4 Design in a collaborative and bustling environment at 8 Hyde Street. 8 Hyde Street is committed to sustainable business practices, using recycled paper in printers, purchasing organic and fair trade tea and coffee and encouraging staff to walk or ride to work. The three businesses at 8 Hyde are currently undertaking a carbon audit with an accredited body to determine usage and on completion all energy used in creation and hosting of websites will be offset.

Steve is a long-time volunteer with Bellingen Urban Landcare and has been a committee member with the group since 2002. He supports and has managed the website for the Steve Biddulph-initiated Siev X Memorial Project since the project’s inception in 2004. Recently he’s enjoyed working with young people, mentoring a student photography and website project in 2008 and working with young adults from Bellingen EYE to plan, design, build and maintain their awesome website in 2009.

Steve has two daughters aged ten and 13 who go to school at Chrysalis Steiner School. He is a spelling nazi, writes occasionally on his blog www.stevecoates.com.au and plays sloppy rhythm guitar in the fabulous Brut 66.
