The Telstra Business Awards are about to open again (Feb 6) and the Telstra Business Women’s Awards are now open. Council would like to encourage businesses in the Bellingen Shire to be involved with these very worthwhile and exciting awards.

For businesses looking for support, there is a business network website that encourages contact to mentors and other business folk for support, ideas etc.

Bonville Golf Resort achieved what every golf resort in Australia strives to be, the leader in their field. For the 2nd time the resort has been voted “Australia’s Leading Golf Resort” at the 2011 Asia & Australasia World Travel Awards Presentation Ceremony in late September. World Rally Championship – The WRC is being held next month. We have obtained 250 special display kits to be used as decoration by chamber members.They consists of a poster, mobile and bunting. I will get them to the chamber asap. The stages for the Rally in our area are at Martells, Ulong and Brooklana areas. Unfortunately there will be no spectator’s points in the Shire, however we are expecting a flow on to our communities from the estimated 5,000 spectators attending this event. So we should be a least prepared to welcome them.

AWARDS TO CELEBRATE RURAL WOMEN

The role of rural women and their importance to the growth of local communities will be celebrated by the Rural Women’s Awards, Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, announced today.

Katrina Hodgkinson is encouraging rural women of all ages and backgrounds to apply or nominate a fellow inspirational female for the awards. Applications are now open and will close on 15 October, 2011.

“These awards are an excellent way of promoting the success of hard-working women in our regional communities including businesswomen, primary producers, and community leaders,” Katrina Hodgkinson said.

“We are incredibly lucky to have so many women who are passionate about their work and take pleasure in contributing to their industries and communities.”

The winner of the 2012 Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation (RIRDC) Rural Women’s Award will receive a bursary of $10,000, and both the winner and runner-up will participate in the RIRDC Australian Institute of Company Directors’ course.

Ms Hodgkinson said the awards are open to women in NSW and the ACT who are involved in agriculture, primary industries or resource development including broadacre and intensive livestock and cropping enterprises, horticulture, forestry, fisheries, natural resource management and other related industries.

NSW Deputy Premier and Member for Oxley, Andrew Stoner, said the awards are a great opportunity for those women toiling hard to see dreams for their communities become a reality.

“These awards encourage women to promote their vision for both primary industries and natural resources while potentially gaining funding to assist in bringing their ideas to fruition,” Mr Stoner said.

Ms Hodgkinson said she continues to be amazed by the resilience and resourcefulness of rural women and is looking forward to meeting the awards’ finalists.

“The Rural Women’s Awards inspire the next generation of women to build efficient, profitable and sustainable rural industries.”

The Rural Women’s Awards are coordinated by NSW Rural Women’s Network through the NSW Department of Trade & Investment, Regional Infrastructure & Services.
