Rainbow of Hope

As we all know, Cancer is a devastating disease. Unfortunately I, like many others, have been touched by Cancer personally and know just how horrible it really can be. On the 27th August, 2009 my dearly loved and beautiful mother Barbara Simpson sadly passed away at age 52 after a long and arduous battle with Breast Cancer. My mother was initially diagnosed in 1998 with the disease and after having undergone radiotherapy treatment she was given the all clear until 2004 when she was diagnosed with secondary Breast Cancer in the bone. In 2006 the secondaries invaded the liver and so Mum began numerous different chemotherapy treatment and further radiotherapy. Whilst Mum fought so courageously, Cancer in the end painfully took her from us. For the rest of my life I now must live with the ongoing pain and heartache of having lost my Mother, obviously one of the most important people in my life. Cancer in this last year has managed to turn my world upside down. Not only do I live with the loss of my Mother to this disease, it has also taken my Nana and a number of beautiful friends. Unfortunately, I know that I am not alone and that my story is not unique. Cancer affects us all. This pain, hurt, sorrow, grief, anguish and frustration that my family and I feel over the loss of loved ones has initiated the drive and determination to help change the outcome for others and it is the reason behind holding the “Rainbow of Hope, Support a Cure for Cancer Dinner”. My Mother loved rainbows and she often would say, “The people we love are always at the other end of our rainbow”. Rainbows now give my family and me a wonderful sense of connection to my Mother and we had wanted to continue the efforts to fund cancer research in her memory so it seemed only fitting to call this event, “Rainbow of Hope”. The main objectives of the “Rainbow of Hope” dinner are to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients as well as to help spread cancer awareness in the local community. The money that will be raised from this event is to be donated to the Cancer Council for research that we all hope can contribute to changing the future and making this disease a thing of the past. For every life that is saved, extended or for every diagnosis that has a happy ending, we will have succeeded in taking back from cancer, what it has taken from so many,…life! Every donation given to this event will make a difference. Whether it is one dollar or a hundred, it is a step in the right direction. The “Rainbow of Hope” Dinner will be held on Saturday 25th September 2010 at Anchors Wharf Restaurant, which is spectacularly positioned on the south bank of the Kalang River at Urunga NSW. It will begin at 6pm with champagne and canapés on arrival followed by a sit down dinner. Throughout the evening there will be live music from local band ‘Fabric’, fantastic raffle prizes, and an auction. Any form of prizes that could be donated to this event would be a major help and greatly appreciated. For those of you who are able to attend this function we would be very much thankful for your support of what should be a very enjoyable evening and most importantly an evening to fundraise to fight the battle against cancer.

Rainbow Wishes to You All and Thanks,

Hayley Simpson.
