Message from Gai Stern, Maxine Keys and Solveig Larson on behalf of Bellingen Hospital Action Group

Dear BHAG members

I’m writing to let you know about a couple of events being organised by two of our members. I would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that the BHAG committee is currently working on a document to submit to the Health Reform Discussion Paper to clarify Bellingen’s positioning for the new health networks and that we are working towards becoming a mature negotiation partner on behalf of the community in this process. If you would like to know more, please contact Pia Dollmann at *bellohospitalrescue@gmail.com

Kind regards

Gai Stern

Secretary

*Craft day 17 July 2010*

If anyone has things to sell, 20% will also go to BHAG. Also, if anyone wants to be involved or can help with cooking please contact Maxine Keys on 6655 0591 or Fay Gibson on 6655 1520.

regards, Maxine Keys (fundraising committee)

Rally 24 July 2010

*Dear BHAG and friends

On Saturday July 24th, Ridley Scott (renowned Director of films such as ”Blade Runner,” “Alien”, “Gladiator” and “Robin Hood)” is asking people around the world to film something in the day of their lives. In the light of our current situation with the Hospital’s future still uncertain and a federal election looming, it feels as though this is a good opportunity for us to gather together with the people of Bellingen and surrounding areas to demonstrate its unique spirit and unwavering support for our Hospital.

The film will be placed on Youtube with the possability of making it into a feature film which will subsequently be made of that day.The theme is that “People Matter” – that our health system is about people, not numbers, and that community consultation is imperative and that whichever side of politics takes the reins, this fact of involvement with doctors, nurses, practitioners, clinicians and patients needs to be embraced rather than ignored or passed over, as has been the case for so long.

It is intended that the meeting begin at 12 noon. If people could arrive earlier, well and good.. Speakers have been invited: politicians and doctors, to be followed by a march up the street with placards and visual displays that represent us as a vibrant, spirited, caring community who are not prepared to lie down and accept being ridden over roughshod by bureaucrats and systems that barely manage to use the words “patient care” in their overbearing, complex declarations of how our health system should be run.

Our theme I think reflects a wider view that is present in the world, that being about values, and the rights of people to be listened to by governments, and treated with respect, dignity and professionalism. Much of what we take for granted here in Bellingen is missing in many parts of the world. Here we have the privilege of a caring community with facilities and assistance that are generally accessible, a large part of which can be attributed to the existence of our unique and wonderful Hospital. However, the loss of our Hospital services and the demoralizing of medical people – nurses, doctors and related areas reflects a wider problem that is affecting our community, that of de-humanization, and lack of care. While we have still a beautiful, unique, varied and vibrant population, let us stand up for that Spirit for ourselves, our Hospital, and for people and Communities everywhere, and insist that we, the people, matter and need to be listened to.

So the invitation is there for everyone to attend Maam Gaduying (Council) Park at 12 Noon until about One O’clock to stand up for our Hospital, and the rights of individuals and communities everywhere.

Please make a placard, and get your children and teenagers to dress wild. You never know, we might make it into a feature film.

For information, email me at this address.. solveig.larsen@yahoo.com.au

<mailto:solveig.larsen@yahoo.com.au> or ring 6655 0511.

Regards, Solveig Larsen.

Message from BCoC member Sourceful Transitions

Is your standard answer to “How are you?”… “Busy”?

Are you often run of your feet, thinking how much else there is to do, never quite seeing how you could possibly get everything under control?”?

Or even worse, do you find yourself spending more and more time at work, without actually getting any closer to the results you really want?

Do you ever wonder how come some people seem to cruise along, get lots done and have plenty of time to enjoy the fruits of their labour? If YOU could somehow get into their minds and find out how they THINK and what they DO, what would that be worth to you?

These successful individuals use particular ways of thinking and specific practical strategies. They know that

•	‘Time-management’ is a lie and impossible

•	Getting lots done has nothing to do with to-do lists

•	Most people make the same mistakes over and over in planning their work and don’t even know it

How would it be for you if:

•	You felt certain that no matter how much work you were facing, you could cope with it?

•	You knew how to spend less time in the office/business, get done what needs doing and be able to spend more time with your family, play golf or hang out with your friends?

•	Knew how to master the common sense principles successful folk use?

You Can Find Out How YOU Can Access These Principles

on Friday 30 July from 3 till 5pm

The Professional Centre, 9 Park Avenue, Coffs Harbour

Spaces are limited, so if this in anyway sounds like something that will make a difference to you, book your spot at www.stickytickets.com.au/3815 , 0414 987 876, or mj@sourcefultransition.com.au

Costs are $37 per person. With no risk to you, because we have a Money Back Guarantee: if you don’t walk away with an idea, tip or strategy that you can immediately implement, we will refund you your money, no questions asked. And the first 5 registrations can bring a colleague or business partner for free!

This interactive and fun seminar will be presented by Marie-Josee (MJ) Boesten from Sourceful Transition, a Mid North Coast based coaching & facilitation company committed to inspired leaders, extra-ordinary results and enjoyable work environments.

“We were so excited to find a short course that provided simple effective tools that we could use immediately, in fact so excited that we meet weekly with Marie-Josee now, who helps us delve in and understand why we do things the way we do and how to become more effective. “

Lynda Saunders – Centre Manager, Palms Shopping , Coffs Harbour

PS. Last time we offered this seminar it was sold out in 5 days. So book NOW –and bring a friend for free!

Toast Urunga is on again – Sunday, 5 September 2010, from 10am to 4pm.

Situated on the river bank parklands where the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers meet the sea,

Toast Urunga is our local community food, wine and music event attracting over 5000 people and now in its 4th year.

Held on Father’s Day each year, Toast Urunga invites the local community and visitors to participate in an event which offers them “something different” and a day of entertainment in a beautiful setting, whilst providing businesses an opportunity to showcase and sell their produce.

Music entertainment (shared across TWO stages) is constant throughout the 6 hours.

A large marquee hosts cooking demonstrations, plus there will be a local community visual arts display.

Jumping castle, sand wizardry and face painting.

With 40+ stalls there is enough variety for everyone!

Around the town the local shops are open, there are craft tables all along the streets.

Bring along some chairs and/or a blanket so you can sit down and enjoy a fantastic day by our beautiful river.
