Bellingen River Festival – Coordinator Wanted

An opportunity to celebrate the beauty of the Bellinger River together; to reflect on its history, understand the current issues and move forward as a community to nurture and value it into the future.

Transition Bellingen is seeking a motivated and inspiring individual to provide core direction for the Bellinger River Festival on September 11th, 2011. Previous experience in event management is highly desirable. Position will be a contract arrangement $25/hr plus allowances.

The Scholarships commenced in 2009 and are awarded by the Premier of New South Wales in the middle of the year. Each Scholarship is valued at $5,000 for every year the recipient is completing their apprenticeship up to a maximum of $15,000. At least two of the Scholarships will be awarded to people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background each year. In 2010, four North Coast apprentices received scholarships.

Who is Eligible

Apprentices who live and work in country NSW and are Australian citizens are eligible to be nominated. See the Guidelines for full eligibility criteria.

the nominee’s trade in an identified skill shortage area in NSW and/or the nominee’s local area.

About the Assessment Criteria

Any relevant evidence can be provided to demonstrate hardship and aptitude – it’s solely up to the apprentice, the employer and trade teacher.

For example:

“hardship” could take into account issues such as financial circumstances, family situation (eg carer status) and/or generational unemployment. Equity criteria could also be used to demonstrate hardship eg Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, people with a disability, mature-aged people

“aptitude” for vocational education and training could be demonstrated by past performance in the apprenticeship, participation in trade skills competitions, references from employers attesting to the nominee’s skills, school results or assessments in trade subjects, examples of the nominee’s work, level of experience

skills shortage areas are those trade occupations identified in the National Skills Needs List available at www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au

For apprentices who will be in their first year of their apprenticeship in 2011 nominations close on 29 April 2011.

Winners will be announced by the Premier of NSW and State Training Services will notify successful nominees in writing.

EYE JOBS AVAILABLE! Bellingen EYE is looking for two dynamic and dedicated people who would like to be part of an exciting project in 2011. “Food4LYF (Local Youth Futures)” is a 9 month project funded by Communities NSW that will have three components: working with high school aged youth to (1) create a sustainable and productive food garden, (2) design and implement skills-based workshops about food production and food processing, and (3) design and implement a series of Leadership Skills workshops and a Leadership Retreat.

The available positions are a Project Coordinator and an Assistant Project Coordinator, to each work 16 hours/week through September, 2011. This is a contracted position. Experience working with youth and a passion for environmental sustainability absolutely necessary. Gardening/food growing experience a bonus. Young people who have just finished school are especially encouraged to apply for the Assistant position.

Up to 100% subsidy for accredited Certificate IV in Carbon Management training for NSW residents and employers

This is worthwhile knowing should you, your staff or local residents be interested in gaining an additional qualification in carbon management.

Whilst the 23rd November is now full, future available dates include Sydney CBD Wednesdays start December 8, Parramatta Thursdays start December 9, Sydney CBD Fridays start December 10, Sydney CBD Mondays start December 13, Melbourne Wednesdays start February 2 and Melbourne Tuesdays start February 8.

NSW residents as well as NSW employers are eligible to receive between 90 and 100% funding of the course costs for training that is approved under the NSW Strategic Skills Program (SSP) and Energy Efficiency for Trades and Professionals Program provided by NSW Department of Education and Training (DET).

The Certificate IV in Carbon Management offered by Skills4Jobs (an RTO with a NSW DET 2009-10 Approved Provider List contract) is an accredited workplace qualification which has been approved on the SSP course list as suitable for Energy Efficiency Training.

The Certificate IV Carbon Management has been developed by Carbon Training International Pty Ltd, a nationally registered RTO. CTI trainers will deliver the training on behalf of Skills4Jobs.

Eligibility criteria for training subsidy

The principal eligibility criteria are that applicants must:

• Work for a NSW employer

• Be a NSW employer

• Be a resident of NSW

• Not be currently involved in any other NSW DET funded training

• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident

The Centrelink Jobs and Skills Expo are intended to provide a vehicle for employers, industry groups, recruitment and training providers, and other key stakeholders, to participate in a local community event that provides people with access to job vacancies, information about options that enhance employability, training opportunities, as well as information about other related local support services.

This will be a great opportunity for employers to promote and effectively fill job vacancies for all job types – a real ‘Jobs Marketplace’.
